Dr. Sarah L. Hummel

Hampton Roads has been my home since I was three years old. My parents moved here so that my father could pursue higher education at what was then a new school, CBN University. I am hopelessly in love with the ocean and cities and waterways and commerce that is unique to this area. I love the pace and the heart and the drive of our people, and most of all, I love the networking spirit that is our fuel.

As I shared my vision for a college that educates students through the strength of biblical leadership training and the network of experts found in Hampton Roads, a friend of mine reminded me of the prayer of Reverend Robert Hunt, part of crew that first landed in Cape Henry, who claimed, “from these very shores the Gospel shall go forth”. Hunt then asked the Lord to remind the generations of this covenant. This is why I chose the Cape Henry Lighthouse as our symbol. It is the reminder of the call of the next generation to understand the Bible, understand our times, and carry the Gospel forth.

At the same time, I’m reading the articles and watching the trends that show many students aren’t finishing college, young people are leaving the church, and colleges aren’t adequately preparing all students for careers.  I’m here to use my education, experience, and skill-sets, along with the strong resources of this community, to make a difference in these areas.

There is nothing like our start to finish hand-in-hand mentorship relationships with our students to ensure they have all the tools they need to be successful in their calling. Not just a solid education, but discipleship to embed faith for a lifetime, networking skills, community relationships, high impact learning opportunities to build their soft skills, and job placement with ongoing support.

Are you looking for an education and mentors to help you develop your calling into a lifetime of service to God and others? I’ve been praying for you. Please consider visiting our campus sometime soon.
